Multi-user database system that brings integrity of mainframe database
systems to LANs and workstations. Includes transaction processing,
backup and recovery facilities, password protection, record-level

Provides DB2 power on LANs. Allows user to implement any of XDB's
database tools as clients for XDB-Server, including the XDB-Workbench,
XDB-SQL/C, XDB-QMT, XDB-SQL Plus and XDB-SQL for Windows. Offers 50
third party tools. Includes transaction processing, distributed
database access, backup and recovery facilities, password protection,
and record-level locking. Provides user interfaces that gather input
and prepare requests for the server. Operates on a single LAN.
Supports distributed database access which allows applications to
transparently access data on remote sites the same way applications
access data locally. Provides Storage Group support to allow data
located on different physical storage devices to be placed in logical
storage groups. Offers facilities for enforcing data integrity.
Utilizes foreign keys and primary keys to define and enforce
relationships between data in different tables. Maintains, for each
transaction, write-ahead backward log that contains before images of
all data changed by a transaction. Maintains a forward log that
contains the after image of all committed changes in the database
since the last backup. Provides the ability for multiple transactions
to access a database simultaneously. Provides a system that locks an
entire database for the exclusive use of the current user. Holds all
exclusive and shared locks until a transaction is committed.
Transaction operates in read-only mode and does not attempt to acquire
