An object application server that lets developers build and deploy
    large-scale, three-tier client/server systems in Smalltalk. Features a
persistent, multiuser implementation of Smalltalk called GemStone
Smalltalk, which overcomes the scalability issues surrounding single-user,
client Smalltalk by providing classes for handling large collections,
concurrency, security, and transactions. Also supports 24-hour by
7-day-per-week production environments with automatic garbage collection,
replication, online backup, and rapid recovery. GemStone includes a
high-speed RPC-based communications system for building distributed
applications. Tools for partitioning Smalltalk applications to take
advantage of server execution of objects and to gain performance
improvements are integrated with supported client development environments
including VisualWorks (and VisualWave for Internet applications) and Visual
Smalltalk Enterprise. An interface to leading relational databases enables
    developers to build scalable three-tier client/server solutions.ÊÎÌÏÀÍÈÈ
